Doula Match

Frequently Asked Questions

Doulas are trusted companions, emotional guides, and advocates for your choices throughout pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period. Birth doulas do not provide medical care or perform clinical tasks, focusing instead on offering continuous support and ensuring your comfort and well-being.

Midwives take care of all medical aspects, ensuring both you and your baby are safe. They monitor your health, check the baby’s progress, and handle any medical procedures needed during labor and delivery.

Doulas and midwives work well together as a team. While the midwife handles medical care, the doula provides emotional support. Having both ensures you and your partner are supported throughout labor and delivery.

If you are looking for midwifery care, visit the Alberta Association of Midwives and  and click on "Find a Midwife.

Studies have shown that having a birth doula can bring many benefits to you and your baby during labor and delivery.  Here are some key benefits:

- Fewer C-Sections:  Mothers with doulas are less likely to need a cesarean section, reducing the chances by 50%

- Shorter Labor:  The overall time spent in labor can be reduced by 25%.

- Less Pain Medication: There is a lower need for epidurals and other pain relief medications.

- Higher Breastfeeding Rates: Doulas provide support that can help increase breastfeeding success.

- Better Mental Health: The emotional support from a doula can reduce anxiety, depression, and the risk of PTSD, especially for mothers without other support systems.

If you have more questions or need help deciding if a doula is right for you, feel free to contact us or talk to your healthcare provider. The choice to have a doula is personal, and we are here to support whatever decision you make.
